Never mind justice and economic redress, my mother said, For in this life all that counts is money. But alas, she did not see That For want of a ringgit, her neighbour stole from her; For want of ten, the shopkeeper shortchanged him in turn; For want of a hundred, the policeman shook down the shopkeeper; For want of a thousand, the industrialist played out the policeman; For want of ten thousand, the tycoon bilked the industrialist; For want of a hundred thousand, the politician sold out to the tycoon; And for want of a million, they'd do it all over again.
and for want of a million just like that I shudder what or who would a good matronly housewife ever do?
So for want of a ringgit This nation killed itself to profit with its politicians, And for want of a few more Her citizens will sell each other off again Never mind racial unity, culture and progress 'Cos life's always about the money, as your mother said.
